Permanent Carbon Removal
Engineered by Nature

Carbon Yards preserve woodchips, rural livelihoods and healthy forests.

Woodchips are the feedstock for long-term carbon storage, procured from short-lived sources: pulpwood, logging slash and unmerchantable biomass.

The Carbon Removal Supply Chain

  • Credit sales flow to woodchip suppliers

We pay for woodchips upon delivery to our facilities, supporting the loggers and truckers that move to meet our demand. Carbon Yards aims to incentivize sustainable harvesting, a stark contrast to other forest carbon projects that seek to reduce or eliminate harvesting.

  • Suppliers produce more woodchips

We target oversupplied pulpwood markets where paper mills have recently closed and rural economies are suffering. We are revitalizing local communities by creating new, needed outlets for wood fiber. We support the recovery and expansion of logging through the purchase of woodchip feedstock.

  • Woodchips drive sustainable forestry

We exclusively source our feedstock from certified forests: SFI, FSC, PEFC and ATFS. We incentivize good forest management to promote forest health, environmental integrity and ecological suitability. Sustainably managed forests regenerate and regrow to sequester more carbon.

  • Sustainable forests regenerate and regrow

Our facilities drive sustainable forestry, ultimately to maximize carbon sequestration. Removal credits generate new forests, new carbon sequestration and new hope for struggling rural communities.

Help Grow the Supply Chain

Drive positive climate, economic and ecological impact right now.

Regrowth,
Backed by Long-Term Storage

We lead on additionality and permanence

Regeneration and regrowth of certified forests, the origin of our credits, backed by the preservation of short-lived materials. Each credit is delivered on the regrowth outcomes from management and backed by a metric ton of carbon physically stored within our facilities, treated with natural preservatives and protected from fires.

Verified Carbon Removal

Our removal credits are issued by the Puro Standard for engineered carbon removal using methods for the terrestrial storage of biomass. Every credit is backed by a verified and traceable CO2 Removal Certificate (CORC).

Transparency and Trust

We support rural livelihoods, good community relationships and sustainable forestry across our carbon removal supply chain. We promote positive impacts for people and planet while proactively managing for any potential negative effects. Our commitment to delivering on promised co-benefits is demonstrated though facility planning and monitoring on the Impact Inside transparency platform.

Real Permanence,
Backed by Real Data

We practice intense monitoring

Thousands of sensors are dispersed and embedded throughout facilities to detect potential decay and pinpoint any retreatment areas. We control and monitor all facilities to ensure permanence for over one-hundred years.

Honest Pricing

Our competitively priced carbon removal floats between US $65-85 per CORC, depending on the price of woodchip feedstock that is necessary to support our local producers. Credits are delivered spot, or on a forward schedule against the outcome of forest regrowth. We prefer to create facilities in regions that are at the intersection struggling rural economies and our customers’ operations.
